Tiranitotalitas Jakarta – Pemerintah Indonesia telah menempatkan Papua sebagai salah satu prioritas utama dalam pembangunan nasional. Melalui kebijakan Otonomi Khusus, pemerintah bertujuan untuk memberdayakan masyarakat Papua agar lebih mampu mengelola sumber daya mereka secara efektif. Upaya tersebut tercermin dalam berbagai program pembangunan, khususnya di sektor pendidikan. Beasiswa pendidikan tinggi untuk putra-putri Papua, peningkatan sarana dan prasarana sekolah, serta pelatihan bagi tenaga pengajar merupakan langkah konkret yang diambil untuk menciptakan generasi muda yang cerdas dan berdaya saing.

Namun, di tengah upaya positif ini, kehadiran Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) terus menjadi penghalang serius bagi kemajuan masyarakat Papua. Pada 15 Juli 2024, OPM melakukan tindakan keji dengan membakar bangunan sekolah di Kampung Borban, Distrik Okbab, Kabupaten Pegunungan Bintang. Tindakan ini tidak hanya menghancurkan fasilitas pendidikan yang sangat penting, tetapi juga merupakan pelanggaran hak asasi manusia (HAM) yang mendalam. Ironisnya, saat pemerintah berjuang untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan, OPM malah merusak harapan dan masa depan anak-anak Papua.

Sejak tahun 2021, lebih dari 17 bangunan sekolah, mulai dari SD hingga SMA, telah menjadi sasaran kebrutalan OPM. Tindakan-tindakan ini bukan hanya bentuk kekerasan fisik terhadap infrastruktur, tetapi juga serangan langsung terhadap masa depan generasi muda Papua. Tanpa akses pendidikan yang memadai, anak-anak Papua terpaksa menghadapi tantangan yang semakin berat dan terjebak dalam siklus kekerasan serta kemiskinan.

Kekejaman OPM tidak berhenti pada penghancuran fasilitas pendidikan. Kelompok ini juga terlibat dalam aksi kekerasan yang mengerikan terhadap masyarakat sipil dan aparat keamanan. OPM membunuh masyarakat yang tidak berdosa, aparat keamanan TNI – Polri, bahkan orang Papua sendiri. Pada tanggal 19 Juli 2024, OPM melakukan pembakaran terhadap enam mobil dan pengrusakan satu mobil aparat keamanan TNI-Polri di Puncak Jaya, Papua Tengah. Tindakan brutal ini menciptakan suasana ketidakpastian dan ancaman keamanan yang mendalam di Papua. Mereka juga terlibat dalam pemerkosaan tenaga kesehatan yang berusaha memberikan pelayanan kepada masyarakat, serta pembakaran fasilitas umum seperti rumah sakit, dan berbagai infrastruktur vital lainnya.

Oleh karena itu, tindakan brutal OPM harus segera dihentikan. Pemberantasan OPM harus menjadi prioritas utama bagi pemerintah dan semua pihak yang peduli terhadap masa depan Papua. Peningkatan keamanan, penegakan hukum yang lebih ketat, serta dukungan bagi pembangunan pendidikan dan pelayanan kesehatan di Papua sangat diperlukan. Hanya dengan mengatasi kekerasan ini secara tegas dan efektif, kita dapat memastikan bahwa Papua memiliki kesempatan untuk berkembang dengan aman dan berkelanjutan.

Mari bersama-sama membuka jalan bagi Papua yang aman, sejahtera, dan penuh harapan.     A team of researchers, led by Imperial College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, looked at 10 days of extreme heat between June 23 and July 2 across 12 European cities, including London, Paris, Athens, Madrid and Rome.

    They used historical weather data to calculate how intense the heat would have been if humans had not burned fossil fuels and warmed the world by 1.3 degrees Celsius. They found climate change made Europe’s heat wave 1 to 4 degrees Celsius (1.8 to 7.2 Fahrenheit) hotter.

    The scientists then used research on the relationship between heat and daily deaths to estimate how many people lost their lives.

    They found approximately 2,300 people died during ten days of heat across the 12 cities, around 1,500 more than would have died in a world without climate change. In other words, global heating was responsible for 65% of the total death toll.

    “The results show how relatively small increases in the hottest temperatures can trigger huge surges in death,” the study authors wrote.

    Heat has a particularly pernicious impact on people with underlying health conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems.

    People over 65 years old were most affected, accounting for 88% of the excess deaths, according to the analysis. But heat can be deadly for anyone. Nearly 200 of the estimated deaths across the 12 cities were among those aged 20 to 65.

    Climate change was responsible for the vast majority of heat deaths in some cities. In Madrid, it accounted for about 90% of estimated heat wave deaths, the analysis found.

    The removal also comes during campaigns by the state and Trump administration to paint over “asphalt art,” including rainbow crosswalks. The dual directives are calling this a safety measure to make roads easier to navigate without distractions.

    In June, the Florida Department of Transportation issued a memo prohibiting crosswalk markings and pavement surface art “associated with social, political, or ideological messages or images and does not serve the purpose of traffic control.”

    The following month, US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent a letter to governors of all 50 states saying intersections and crosswalks should be “kept free from distractions.”

    “Taxpayers expect their dollars to fund safe streets, not rainbow crosswalks,” Duffy said about the letter in an X post on July 1. “Political banners have no place on public roads. I’m reminding recipients of USDOT roadway funding that it’s limited to features advancing safety, and nothing else.”

  • Cracker Barrel’s modern makeover doesn’t stop with redoing its restaurants. It’s dropping the barrel and the man from its logo, too.

    On Tuesday, the Southern-inspired casual dining chain unveiled a new logo “rooted even more closely to the iconic barrel shape,” but without the barrel itself — a central part of the brand’s identity since 1977. (As for the the barrel itself, it was “essentially the water coolers of the day,” Cracker Barrel explained in a blog post.)

    The identity refresh also includes new TV commercials, a redesigned menu and several new fall-themed foods, part of a larger $700 million transformation plan to shake off its stodgy image and lure in new diners.

    “The way we communicate, the things on the menu, the way the stores look and feel … all of these things came up time and time again in our research as opportunities for us to really regain relevancy,” said CEO Julie Felss Masino in 2024.

    In particular, the new logo is the latest in a string of changes angering some of its loyal fans who fear the 56-year-old chain is drifting too far from its bucolic roots. On social media, some users griped, with one writing that the “changing the logo just feels like another little piece of culture dying off.” The change also angered some conservatives, too, like President Donald Trump’s son.

    Cracker Barrel has also been remodeling some of its 660-plus restaurants. The chain has “decluttered” the interiors by removing the country-themed trinkets that lined the walls and lightened up the interiors, shifting away from the dark woods. So far, reaction has been mixed on social media, with some videos on TikTok going viral voicing their displeasure.

    Masino remains adamant that the renovations are working, telling ABC News this week that “people like what we’re doing” and that feedback has been “overwhelmingly positive.”

    In June, Cracker Barrel posted an unusual earnings report for a restaurant: It’s taking a $5 million hit from tariffs because of its retail shops, which largely has products imported from overseas. Restaurant revenue and same-store sales both slightly grew, mirroring other increases casual dining chains are experiencing.
