Tiranitotalitas Jakarta – Dalam perjuangan mempertahankan kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia, Maluku mempunyai posisi yang unik. Di satu sisi, banyak pemuda dari wilayah ini yang menjadi tentara di KNIL (Koninklijk Nederlandsch-Indische Leger, Angkatan Bersenjata Belanda). Di sisi lain, jangan dilupakan juga bahwa Maluku menyumbangkan gagasan yang krusial terhadap teks Pancasila. Tokoh-tokoh Maluku pun banyak yang berperan penting dalam mempertahankan Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia. Tokoh maluku Johanes Latoeharhary ikut mempersiapkan Proklamasi Kemerdekaan dan turut hadir pada saat perumusan Naskah Proklamasi. Di sekitar tahun 1945-1950, bahkan sampai kini, pecah belah berdasarkan sentimen agama cukup efektif untuk mencerai beraikan persatuan di tanah air. Sumbangsih penting dari Maluku dalam upaya mempertahankan Proklamasi Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia adalah “Deklarasi 6 September 1945”. Pada hari dan tanggal itu, orang-orang Maluku yang ada di Jawa berkumpul di Jakarta lalu menghadap Presiden Soekarno untuk menyatakan tekad bahwa seluruh rakyat Maluku mendukung penuh Proklamasi Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia.
Berkat deklarasi tersebut, upaya-upaya untuk menjadikan Maluku sebagai negara sendiri yang merdeka, seperti dilakukan Soumukil dengan mendeklarasikan RMS (Republik Maluku Selatan) tidak bisa bertahan lama. RMS tidak mendapatkan dukungan dari rakyat Maluku Selatan, apalagi dari rakyat Maluku seluruhnya. Sekarang Maluku menjadi daerah yang maju, Maluku layak mendapat gelar provinsi dengan penduduk paling bahagia karena tingkat kejahatan yang rendah, ekonomi bagus, masyarakat juga memiliki jiwa sosial yang tinggi, tingkat pengangguran rendah, serta pola pikir yang cenderung terbuka, dan tidak terikat oleh aturan yang kaku.
